THE DUABO OFFINSO YOUTH GOT PANISHED – OKYEAME FOR NANA WIAFE AKENTEN OFFINSOMAN HENE.

Curses are invoked purposely for Justice in the Akan Society. But in some communities in Ghana, Curse (Duabo) is prohibited.  The Ancestral Spirits invoked in the Akan society to place a curse are to be believed as powerful deity and they don’t forgive when they are invoked. Due to this reason and some several reasons, the Oman Hene of Offinso Tradional Area, NANA WIAFE AKENTEN has banned the use of deities to place a curse (duabo).

But as for some youth’s in Offinso Municipality, they have not heard anything like that, so they took the law into their own hands and walk into a stream called Offin which is a very popular river in Ghana to invoked the spirits in the waters to place a curse on a political party. Their reason for the curse was that, authorities in their political party don’t want their choice of person to be their member of parliament to contest. And due to that they have to invoke the water gods to fight for justice by offering to them a sheep sacrifice and some alcohol together with eggs making it very dangerous curse.

Upon hearing this, the traditional council of Offinso has to meet to punish the youth who partake in those actions. According to the Okyeame (linguist), the King is even not felling well but because the youth has broken a bond they should have to meet as early as possible to punish these guys.

“We have punished them as custom demands. It is not right to go to the stream without the concern of the King. And what they have done is against the traditional rules of our society and we can’t sit down for our society to be destroyed all because of politics”. He said this on an interview hosted by Alibaba Dankanbari on Kessben Fm Braking News on 10th June, 2020.

The most important thing is that, after the curse invocation, the authorities in the party have giving their aspirant the opportunity to contest.
